April 19, 2008 A.M. Best Affirms Penn Mutual's A+ (Superior) Rating - 2008
A.M. Best has affirmed Penn Mutual's A+ (Superior) financial strength rating, as well as that of our subsidiary, The Penn
Insurance and Annuity Company.
According to A.M. Best, "These rating actions are based on PML's superior levels of capitalization, positive consolidated
operating results and well-established and focused strategy targeting the affluent market."
The positive comments about Penn Mutual also included the fact that "PML has consistently grown its absolute levels of surplus
in recent years, leading to high risk-adjusted capitalization relative to its insurance and investment risks."
According to Peter Vogt, executive vice president and chief financial officer, "This latest affirmation from A.M. Best means
that our focused, consistent strategy and sustained financial performance continue to resonate with the rating agencies."
Vogt concluded, "This is very good news for all of our stakeholders-our policy and contract holders, our field representatives
and our home office associates-because it clearly illustrates our success in maintaining our financial strength and fiscal
responsibility."
A.M. Best uses letter grades ranging from A++, the highest, to F, companies in liquidation. Rating modifiers and affiliation
codes may also be associated with these ratings. Penn Mutual's A+ (Superior) rating ranks the second highest out of 16 ratings.
The rating quoted above applies only to Penn Mutual's claims-paying ability and not to the products we offer or their underlying
investments.
