A.M. Best Affirms Penn Mutual's A+ (Superior) Rating - 2008

According to A.M. Best, these rating actions are based on Penn Mutual's:

  • Superior levels of capitalization
  • Continued strong operating performance
  • Well-established upscale market presence
  • Growth in absolute levels of surplus
  • Risk-adjusted capitalization, which remains strong and higher than most peer companies.

Effective April 2008

A M. Best’s Financial Strength Rating (FSR) is an opinion of an insurer’s ability to meet its obligations to policyholders. A.M. Best uses letter grades ranging from A++, the highest, to F, companies in liquidation. Rating modifiers and affiliation codes may also be associated with these ratings.

Penn Mutual's A+ (Superior) rating, which was reaffirmed in April 2008, ranks the second highest out of 16 ratings.

The ratings quoted above apply only to Penn Mutual's claims-paying ability and not to the products we offer or their underlying investments.
