The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company Announces Donation on Behalf of 2017 Life of Significance Award Winner

HORSHAM, Pa. – July 27, 2017 – The recipient of the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company’s (Penn Mutual) 2017 Life of Significance Award, Jenna Jones, has selected Girls on the Run to receive a $5,000 charitable donation. At this year’s Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship, Jones, of the United States Naval Academy, became the third annual recipient of the award, which is given to a rugby player that exemplifies Penn Mutual’s values of integrity, commitment and respect, and has made substantial contributions to society and their community.

Jones, who is president of the Navy Women’s Rugby Club, has dedicated significant volunteer time to Girls on the Run. The organization works with girls in the 3rd-8th grade to celebrate and recognize the talents that are unique to each individual. Through a research-based curriculum that includes discussion, activities, and running games, individuals develop necessary skills that are essential to navigating the world while establishing an appreciation for health and fitness.

Since 2002, the Girls on the Run program has been evaluated for its impact, and findings indicate improvement in girls’ self-esteem, body image, eating attitudes and physical activity.

“Building confidence and character at a young age is imperative to leading a successful life,” says Eileen McDonnell, chairman and CEO of Penn Mutual. “We’re enthusiastic about Jenna’s decision to donate to Girls on the Run, an organization that is built on recognizing strength and empowering others to do the same. On behalf of Penn Mutual, we thank Jenna for her contributions to the community.”
