Penn Mutual’s Rugby Documentary Receives International Recognition

For the second year in a row, Rugby Rising, a documentary focusing on how rugby develops leadership characteristics among its players, receives a Telly Award.

HORSHAM, Pa. – September 25, 2018 – The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company (Penn Mutual) is pleased to announce that their 2017 “Rugby Rising” documentary has been awarded a bronze Telly Award. The documentary, created in partnership with Jalbert Productions International, was honored in the Television, General-Sports category at the 39th annual Telly Awards this past May.

Over the last four years, Penn Mutual has strategically aligned itself with collegiate rugby, emphasizing how the values of the sport closely align with Penn Mutual’s business philosophies. Penn Mutual created the “Rugby Rising” documentary to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the growing sport, both on and off the pitch. The 2017 documentary covers the USA men’s and women’s national teams as they compete on the world stage, USA Eagle Jillion Potter’s battle with cancer, the Life University women’s team as they train for a championship title, and more.

The Telly Awards celebrate excellent work within television and video, with judges that reflect industry leaders across the fields. The awards generate over 12,000 international nomination entries each year, and have winners representing work from some of the most respected production companies around the world.

“Receiving this award for the second year is a testament to our continued efforts to bring rugby to a larger stage within the U.S.,” says Eileen McDonnell, Chairman and CEO at The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company. “This year, we showcased how our values of integrity, community and loyalty bind the sport and our company together. We’ve invested in rugby both financially and emotionally, and being recognized with this award is an added bonus.”

Jay Jalbert, VP of Production Services and Creative Director of Jalbert Productions International, explains, “We aspire to tell stories that inspire others through film and television, and with ‘Rugby Rising,’ it’s rewarding to see our message was well received. This was a special experience to document rugby players in their natural habitat, along with the coaches and the fans that make the sport of rugby so authentic.”
